Easy Storage Solutions for Your Kitchen

What makes a kitchen great place to work in is not just about the dishes or the decorations, but how you organize it.

The kitchen is probably one of the busiest areas in any home. At any given time, you could be preparing dishes, preparing ingredients, or cleaning. And because you use it often, it’s important that you keep it organized. That way, you can accomplish your kitchen tasks efficiently and without so much stress.

The idea of organizing the kitchen can be a little overwhelming, but don’t worry. An organized kitchen doesn’t necessarily mean you have to spend extra on additional cabinets or shelves. It’s all about being smart with whatever space you have and finding a place for everything. Plus, you don’t have to pressure yourself into organizing your kitchen in one day. Make small changes gradually and you’ll be working efficiently before you know it.

Here are some ideas on how to organize your kitchen:

  1. Keep everyday items that need washing close to the sink or washing area.

This can include the plates and silverware you use daily, as well as the pots and pans you use often. With this system, all the items that need washing daily are easily accessible. This also keeps your cabinets from getting cluttered with items you don’t use a lot. Keeping these items close to the sink or dishwasher can also save you time and effort when it comes to cleanup.

  1. Divide your kitchen into activity areas.

Consider the different activities you do in the kitchen, like cooking or baking. Then you can put away your cooking tools or supplies in one area, and all your baking tools in another. This way, you can access your supplies easily.

  1. Put your plastic grocery bags in a separate bag.

Too many plastic bags? Put them together in a bag holder and position it next to the garbage can. When you need a plastic bag, just get one from the bag holder. When the bag holder is full, you can easily recycle in one go.

  1. Divide your utensils into compartments.

If you constantly have to dig through your utensil drawer to find something, then this tip is definitely for you. Sort your utensils and separate them into compartments inside your drawer. For this, you can invest in drawer organizers, or just fit small containers in the drawer.

  1. Hang aprons and kitchen fabrics.

Mount pegs or hangers and use them to hang your aprons, pot holders and dish towels. Make sure to keep them at least two feet away from your stove to be safe.

  1. Organize your pantry into categories.

Think of your pantry as a library and group your items into categories—canned goods, spices, sauces, breakfast items, etc.
