How to Achieve a Pet-Friendly Home

How to Achieve a Pet-Friendly Home

For many of us, pets have become not only cats, dogs or animal friends that we take care of at home – they have become a big part of the family. Cat lovers, dog lovers and animal lovers alike would agree that giving pets the freedom to run and scamper around the house instantly lights up the house and give it a jolly character. That being said however, giving your pets complete freedom at home can create quite a mess.

If you’re an animal lover enjoying the company of your furry friend but you’re tired of always cleaning up after your pet, then follow these tips to make your home more pet-friendly.

It’s all about the fabric.

With potty trained pets, this might not be that big of a deal but for your rebellious animal friends, it’s definitely an important step. Use pet-friendly fabrics like denim or canvas on the furniture that your pet frequents as much as possible. Store those silks and velvets somewhere your pet won’t reach them. If they have a designated sleeping area, whether it be on the couch, or a pet bed, make sure the fabric they sleep on are easily washable.

Invest in a vacuum cleaner.

Cats and dogs regularly shed their fur. This means that you’ll see an indeterminate amount of pet hair all over your house if you don’t clean regularly. The most efficient way to keep your floors hair-free is by using a quality vacuum cleaner.

Store their toys and treats in colorful containers.

Pets absolutely love colourful things that pop out! If you don’t have colourful containers at home, make it a DIY paint project! Don’t worry, there are anti-microbial water based paint that you can use like Island Life as an alternative to highly toxic paints. Click here to know more about Island Life.

Designate an area for your pet to eat and drink.

Pick out an area in your home (e.g. the corner of your kitchen) and set up your pet’s food and water bowls. Remember to keep them colourful without working against your interior decoration.

Say no to carpeting.

When you’re a pet owner, stains are basically a regular occurrence. With floors carpeted from wall to wall, it can be quite difficult to remove unpleasant odors. In this light, forget about wall to wall carpeting and settle on rugs instead.
